K-8 Math Overview
District 70 uses Bridges as its primary instructional resource for teaching math in kindergarten through fourth grade and enVision Mathematics for fifth through eighth grades.
Bridges is a PK–4 curriculum that equips teachers to fully implement the Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics in a manner that is rigorous, coherent, engaging, accessible to all learners, and follows best practice in mathematics instruction. Bridges blends direct instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration. It taps into the intelligence and strengths of all students by presenting material that is as linguistically, visually, and kinesthetically rich as it is mathematically powerful.
Additional benefits of Bridges include:
- It promotes student discourse about math;
- It is highly interactive. Students spend a lot of time "doing". This includes hands-on math manipulatives that come with the program and are integrated into lessons. There are many engaging games (called workplaces) that allow students to practice skills. During workplace time (which happens daily K-2), teachers can be working with small groups to differentiate.
- It has built-in differentiation- both for students who need additional support and those that need more. There are also EL tips and recommendations.
The Bridges resources provided below are for family members of students in classrooms currently using Bridges 2nd Edition. The resources provide guidance and suggestions for participating in your child's learning—your best source for answering questions and getting assistance is your student's teacher.
enVision Mathematics, used for 5th through eighth grades, combines problem-based learning and visual learning to deepen students’ conceptual understanding.

Supplementary Math Resources
Magma Math is a digital math platform that helps third through fifth grade students develop problem-solving skills and deepen their understanding of math concepts. Unlike traditional multiple-choice tools, Magma Math allows students to show their work using digital handwriting, giving teachers insight into their thinking and strategies.
The program supports personalized learning, real-time feedback, and meaningful teacher-student conversations around math. Magma Math is used to reinforce classroom instruction, build confidence, and foster a growth mindset in mathematics.
DreamBox is an online support component for math in Libertyville District 70 for kindergarten through second grade students. Using adaptive technology, DreamBox individualizes learning for each student, assessing student performance within each lesson and differentiating future learning experiences to support struggling, advanced, and on-level students. Lessons are game-based, motivating and engaging students while developing conceptual understanding, reasoning, and problem solving skills.

Math Fact Lab is an online program designed to help students in kindergarten through fifth build fluency with basic math facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The program focuses on conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization, helping students develop number sense and flexible thinking.
Students work at their own pace, and the program adapts to their individual needs—providing targeted practice and support. Math Fact Lab is a valuable tool for reinforcing foundational skills and building confidence in math.
