Our School

Welcome to the home of Buddy the Bulldog and a world of green and gold!

From 20th century construction, to 21st century instruction, teachers and staff at Butterfield School work to open the minds of about 500  young learners from preschool to fifth grade. Each day invites students to create, design, question and explore using the tools of creative problem solving, working collaboratively on teams, communicating as they listen, speak and write, making connections to self, text and the world around them and utilizing technology in the form of comprehensive digital literacy.

Professional development practices, where teachers use collaborative time to instruct and support colleagues, to the creative development of a host of student activity clubs and extra curricular offerings, educators at Butterfield School find innovative, diverse ways to share information while engaging both children and adults.

It is these day to day experiences and opportunities that await all students and staff, as well as the profound commitment to teaching and learning, that makes District 70 and Butterfield School an extraordinary place to work, study, learn and grow.

Go Bulldogs!

Construction Update

  • Butterfield Parking Lot  (Summer/Fall of 2025)

The parking lot project is moving forward, with completion expected by September 30.

Over the past several weeks, additional work was needed to address soil compaction and ensure the long-term stability of the lot. This required review and approval by the Board of Education before work could continue. While this extended the timeline, it helped establish the best course of action for the project. Concrete work resumed this week, and other subcontractors are scheduled to continue progress in the coming weeks.

Earlier in the summer, heavy rainfall and adjustments related to the stormwater detention system also affected the schedule. Even with these adjustments, important portions of the project, such as the main entrance/exit, bus circle, and sidewalks, were completed in time to support a safe and smooth start to the school year.

This project has taken longer than originally anticipated, and we truly appreciate your patience. The finish line is in sight, and we look forward to not only the new parking lot but also new landscaping this fall.
